Heard helps people find shifts at cafés, restaurants and bars, and helps those venues hire. Heard is run by Heard Labs LLC("we", "us"). This page explains what we collect, who sees it, and how to delete it. Questions go to hello@heard.biz.
What venues see, and what stays private
Your profile is never public. A venue sees it only after you apply to one of its jobs. When you apply, that venue sees:
- your first name and last initial ("Maya C."), and your full name once they invite you
- your photo
- your note or pitch, if you add one
- your work history
- your availability and the roles you're open to
- roughly how far you'd drive ("~15 min drive")
These stay with you. Venues never see them:
- your phone number and email address
- your home area (we only use it to work out drive times)
- the minimum pay you set (we only use it to filter your jobs)
- where else you've applied, and how many applications you have left
Chat with a venue happens in the app. Your phone number reaches a venue only if you choose to share it with that venue.
What we collect
- Account: your name, phone number and/or email address, and that you confirmed you're 18 or older.
- Profile: your photo, headline, bio, roles, availability, home area, minimum pay, work history and pitch.
- Activity: the jobs you apply to or pass on, venues' replies, trial shifts, whether you were hired, and messages.
- Confirmed work records: when a venue confirms you came to a trial shift or hired you through Heard, we keep a record of it. You see it on your profile. Other venues don't see it.
- Venues: the venue's name, address, photos and job details, and the names and contact details of its managers.
- Alerts: which texts, emails and notifications we sent, and when they were opened or acted on, so we can tell whether alerts are working. If you turn on notifications in the app, we store your device's notification token.
- How the app is used: which screens you see and what you tap (for example, that you opened a job or applied), so we can see where the app is confusing and fix it. On a few screens we record a replay of taps and scrolling, with everything you type hidden. We never record sign-in, chat or your pitch. This is tied to your account's number, never to your name, phone or email.
- Errors: technical details when something breaks, so we can fix it.
- Security: the IP address you signed up from and requested sign-in codes from, to stop fake accounts.
We don't read your phone's location or contacts. When you upload a photo, we remove the camera's location and other hidden details from it. If you import a résumé, we read it to fill in your work history and don't keep the file.
Text messages
If you give us your phone number, we text you sign-in codes and updates about your applications: for example, when a venue invites you, and reminders before a trial shift. Venue managers get texts about new applicants. Next to the phone field we say: "We'll text you codes and updates about your applications. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out."
- How often we text depends on your activity.
- Message and data rates may apply.
- Reply STOP to stop texts at any time. We'll send alerts by email instead. Reply HELP for help, or email hello@heard.biz.
- We don't sell or share your phone number, or your consent to receive texts, with anyone for their marketing. Your number is used only to sign you in and send your Heard alerts.
Email
We email sign-in codes and alerts about your applications or applicants. Every alert email has a one-tap unsubscribe link, and you can choose which alerts you get on your Profile. Sign-in codes are always sent.
Who else handles your data
We don't sell personal information, and we don't run ads or share data with advertisers or data brokers. We use a few service providers to run Heard, and they may handle your data only to provide their service to us:
- hosting, database backups and file storage
- delivering emails and text messages (for example Twilio)
- delivering app notifications (Apple)
- reading a résumé or job post you give us, using an AI service (Anthropic)
- understanding how the app is used (PostHog) and catching errors (Sentry)
- checking that sign-ups come from real people, not bots (Cloudflare Turnstile)
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
How long we keep it
- We keep your account and profile while you have an account.
- Sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes.
- Venues have 72 hours to reply to an application. After that it closes, and the record is kept so the venue's reply rate stays accurate.
- Backups are kept for 30 days, then deleted.
Deleting your account
In the app or on the web, go to Profile and tap Delete account. You can also email hello@heard.biz from your sign-in address.
- We delete your name, phone, email, photo, profile, work history and chats, and your usage data in PostHog.
- Applications still waiting for a reply are withdrawn.
- Applications a venue already answered stay in its records without your name, so its reply rate stays honest.
- If you're a venue's only manager, the venue goes back to an unclaimed listing and its roles close.
Deleted data leaves our backups within 30 days.
Your choices
You can see and change your profile at any time, turn alerts off, and delete your account. To get a copy of your data or ask us to correct something, email hello@heard.biz.
Age
Heard is for people 18 and older. If you think someone younger has signed up, tell us and we'll delete the account.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. See also our terms.
